With a background in the antiques trade, Marc Taylor has always had an eye
for things with a history. Reclaiming old objects and materials has become
second nature to him and is now a big part of how he works creatively.
His paintings and collages take inspiration from classical still life traditions,
architecture, and the work of early 20th-century artists — but there’s always
a contemporary twist. You’ll often find him rummaging through antique shops
and brocantes, hunting down forgotten canvases, old frames, and curious bits
of ephemera to paint over or repurpose. The result? His still lifes feel like
carefully composed collections of ‘lost and found’ treasures, given a new lease
of life through his graphic, modern eye.
